What’s So Great About Ginger (Bread Men)?
Hush now, it’s the holidays. We’ve actually done a post on ginger in the past but I thought it was worth mentioning again because that’s just how much I care about your health and well-being… Or, my diet is almost entirely gingerbread men at the moment and I need to justify my addiction, same diff.
But there is good news on this front. While it might be harder to justify some of the other seasonal treats this time of year, anything with real ginger gets a green light in my book. That’s because “The National Cancer Institute lists ginger as one of the top ten foods with high anti-cancer activity.” So next time someone side-eyes you as you reach for yet another cookie of the ginger variety, just politely tell them you’re too busy literally killing cancer to deal with their bah-humbug attitude. Plus, ginger is very soothing to the stomach so it can help calm things down if you did succumb to all those other goodies (although some might suggest ginger tea over say, a gingerbread house wall but why quibble?)
Oh, and about those other treats. My gift to you… healthy justification for all your favourites:
Egg nog ( because it does in fact contain real eggs and hence good protein. I can’t vouch for where the nog is sourced though)
Chocolate fudge (because of the antioxidants, duh, easy one)
Peanut butter balls (because they contain actual joy)
Wine (because wine)

What’s So Great About Beets?
You can’t really say that beets are a kids’ favourite. Certainly there hasn’t been a bite of one that’s successfully made its way down the throat of either of my children.
