Twitter Party with SPC & Bernardin for #jarsfromthestars on June 11th

We’re always up to a lot of exciting things over here at SPC. Aside from eating our way through our recipe testing (I may even have a mouth full of a new, yet-to-be-posted berry almond scone right now. Hey, someones got to do it!), we’re also getting ready for Ontario’s strawberry and blueberry seasons. I can’t wait to get up to my cottage to start picking berries at the local farm. If you’re a regular reader of this site you now I tend to get a little crazy this time of year when it comes to fresh berries. My daughter gets tired of being dragged up the street each day for a picking field trip but I love having lots of fresh berries for baking, freezing and making my own preserves. A few years ago I learned from our friends how simple preserving can be so now I love to make my own jams. It’s my way of ensuring we have local berries all year long. And since SPC loves seasonal cooking, we have no shortage of berry recipes on the site from four years of gluttonous summer eating including baked french toast, popsicles, yogurt cake, stuffed French toast, fruit salad, crostata and more.

We’re also thrilled to be hosting a Twitter party on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 with our preserving friends over at Bernardin. The over 100 year old Canadian brand known for its canning jars and tools has asked SPC to participate in a great event known as #jarsfromthestars. Of course we jumped right in.

Bernardin asked 50 Canadian personalities to fill a limited edition retro, green glass mason jar with anything they’d like and, to be honest, I can’t wait to see what participants like Chefs Lynn Crawford and Susur Lee as well as Jian Gomeshi and Marilyn Dennis decided to tuck into their jars. 100 % of the proceeds will support the Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC), a place where people come together to grow, cook, share and advocate for good food. The jars will go up for auction on eBay starting on Monday, June 16th, 2014. However, you can find out the scoop about the #jarsfromthestars and what’s inside during our Twitter party on Wednesday, June 11th, 2014 from 9:00 pm – 10:00pm Eastern time. You’ll also be able to get tips for safe canning and preserving, recipes as well as prizes.

So please join us Wednesday, June 11, 2014 for this special Twitter event and use the hashtag #jarsfromthestars. Don’t worry, you can participate by just hanging out on your couch, in your PJ’s, eating tortilla chips. Oh, sorry. I had you confused with Ceri. It’s how she’ll be tuning in for the party. So, in other words, the dress-code is canning casual.

In order to be sure you don’t miss out, you’ll want to connect with us on Twitter via @spchronicles as well as @Bernardin.

You’ll also need to RSVP below to be eligible for the party.
