As the temperature slowly starts to rise with spring and summer, active families can start to feel a little depleted. Did you know that dehydration can make you feel tired? It’s time to up your hydration game and there’s no more powerful drink to do it than coconut water. It’s packed with the electrolytes, like potassium and magnesium, that we lose from sweating.  Whether it’s a session at the gym for you or tough soccer practice for the kids, it’s a great thing to get active and sweat but you always want to be hydrating and replacing those vitamins and minerals your body needs.

Of course you can drink coconut water straight up but adding it to smoothies is another great way to include this super food in your diet. Why not add some extra nutrition to a snack your kids already love? So I was really excited to get into the kitchen with my kids to come up with some ways to try out a few of ZICO‘s original and new flavours of coconut water. We used the Natural water, Chocolate and Latte (contains real coffee!)  to make a roundup of smoothies. Smoothies make an easy, fast breakfast but I also love them as a post work out pick-me-up or an after school snack for the kids. You could play around with different combinations using ZICO coconut water and any fruits your family likes. I like to add Greek yogurt to up the protein and remember to try frozen fruit for the cool, creaminess they add.

  • Fruit Cocktail
  • (yields 2 1/2 cups)
  • 1 cup Natural Zico water
  • 2 kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 banana, peeled and chopped
  • 4 or 5 ice cubes
  • Chocolate Raspberry Chiller
  • (yields 2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups Chocolate Zico water
  • 1 cup frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • Morning Wakeup Call
  • (yields 2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups Latte Zico water
  • 2 frozen bananas, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 Tbsp natural almond butter



Could not be easier. Pick a smoothie, place ingredients in a blender and mix.

Okay, it’s a “mock” tail but this super juicy shake is hydrating and satisfying enough to toss back any time of day. zicochocrasp

Chocolate Raspberry Chiller

Do you hit the same wall I do at 3 pm? Rather than reach for yet another coffee to give you a lift, give this refreshing shake a try. It’s cool, creamy and just sweet enough to get your through that afternoon hump.

Morning Wake Up Call

What else do you need? The yogurt and almond butter give you your morning dose of protein, those frozen bananas (don’t skip this step, trust me!) deliver a cool, creaminess and the latte coconut water gives a hint of sweetness and a little caffeine kick. Perfect before you head out to an early pilates class.
